Dr. Lyn Johnson is a longtime veterinarian in Bartlesville, OK, with 35 years of experience. She graduated from Texas A&M with a BS degree in Biomedical Science in 1983 & Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine with her DVM degree in 1987. After being in general practice for nine years, she returned to Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine to study behavior with Dr. Bonnie Beaver for three years. She's studied positive training methods extensively, as well as the science behind these training methods.
Specialties and Certifications
Dr. Johnson is also certified in Canine Rehabilitation Therapy and Veterinary Medical Acupuncture. She's an advocate for pain control and conditioning in our senior pets, hoping to improve their quality of life. She recently became involved in the Fear-Free & Low-Stress handling methods and Cooperative Care training designed to reduce your pet's stress at the vet's office. Dr. Johnson is currently the only veterinarian in Bartlesville that is certified in Low-Stress Handling.
Dr. Johnson's areas of special interest are feline medicine, sports medicine and pain management, and the prevention and treatment of behavior problems in dogs and cats. She offers private behavior training on a house call basis for both dogs and cats. Dr. Johnson also sees various exotic pets, including pocket pets, birds, and reptiles.
Dog training & sports expert
Dr. Johnson has been involved in dog training, dog sports, and pet therapy for over 30 years. She's trained, shown and titled multiple Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Shetland Sheepdogs, and Gordon Setters in a variety of sports. A member of multiple dog clubs, she's taught agility, puppy, nose work, and musical freestyle classes. She currently teaches Puppy Kindergarten and Cooperative Care classes for the Obedience Training Club of Bartlesville.
Public Outreach
Dr. Johnson is passionate about educating pet owners, helping them better understand and care for their pets. She's written a pet care newspaper column, been a guest on radio talk shows, and visits school classrooms, scout troops, and other civic groups. She currently runs a Facebook Pet Tip page under Lyn Johnson, DVM.
Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association, American Association of Feline Practitioners, American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, and the Animal Behavior Society.
